The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging

Impact

The image gently campaign launched 1/22/08. This is a snapshot of what has happened since:

  • 1,340 medical professionals have taken the pledge
  • This website has been visited 58,000 times
  • The protocol has been downloaded over 6,000 times.

Representatives from GE Healthcare, Philips, Siemens and Toshiba, FDA, MITA, and Alliance organizations: SPR, ACR, AAPM, ASRT, AOCR, ARRT, AUR, CRCPD, RSNA, SBCTMR, SIR, SPIR and SRU joined Nora at the CT Vendors Conference sponsored by the Alliance at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital on August 20.

One size does not fit all...

There's no question: CT helps us saves kids' lives!

But, when we image, radiation matters!

Children are more sensitive to radiation.
What we do now lasts their lifetimes.

So, when we image, let's image gently:
More is often not better.

When CT is the right thing to do:
Child size the kVp and mA
One scan (single phase) is often enough
     Scan only the indicated area
